My name is Roz and I’m the proud owner of Sophia Jane Millinery based in Billericay in Essex where I live with my two daughters and two Maine Coon cats.
I’ve always been a great lover of fashion and all things handmade and beautiful. I’m a true believer in wearing something that makes you feel confident and amazing.
When I was a child my mother used to let me choose fabrics and make them into fabulous dresses, which sparked my love for fabrics and sewing. I was known for always turning up at family gatherings with my latest artistic project. Its a love which I hope will inspire my two young daughters.
My interest in hats and fascinators began while watching my mother singing in concerts in her amazing costumes and hats, and continued when I co ordinated large events and exhibitions in my early career.
I trained at the Royal School of Needlework in Hampton Court Palace, in fine embroidery including goldwork and silk shading, which I love including in my couture hats and headbands. I then trained in soft furnishings where I continued to learn a huge amount about attention to detail and designing. My love for these traditional techniques led me to millinery where I can combine all the things I love into beautiful creations.
I love dressing up for events and going to the races and take a lot of joy in designing perfect unique pieces for clients to match their outfits. I love adding that special detailing of beading, feather work, hand made flowers or embroidery for truly individual pieces. I’ve recently added a whole range of upcycled pieces using vintage silks, velvets or embroidered fabrics and have a hire range to make bespoke available to all.
